Stay Fresh: How to Create Relevant Content

How to Create Relevant Content

It’s no surprise that the world of marketing is changing rapidly—there is a ravenous hunger for more and more relevant content from brands. Whether you’re the marketing lead at a major corporation or a small business owner, you’ve likely asked yourself, “how do we cut through the noise and keep our audience engaged?”

The good news is that creating relevant content for your brand doesn’t have to be a conundrum, and we’ve got some tried-and-true tips to help you out!

Creating Relevant Content—Four Ways to Stay Fresh

Identify Your Audience

So, what is relevant content? We define it as content that authoritatively connects and engages with your target audience by meeting their direct needs. But to truly reach your customers and increase brand awareness, you need to define your audience clearly.

To get started, ask yourself questions like:

  • What problems do they want to solve?
  • Are they primarily men or women, or a mix of both?
  • Where do they live?
  • What do they do for work?
  • What are their passions?
  • Who or what do they love?

Answering these questions will guide you in creating captivating content for your audience and help you craft a compelling hook

Revisit Your Values

When was the last time you read your company’s vision statement? Your vision and values should serve as a framework for creating relevant content. After all, your content should be a natural extension of your brand!

For example, if giving back to your community is a core element of your mission, you could create a series profiling employees who volunteer with local organizations and causes.

Revisiting the core values that define your company’s mission is a great way to create relevant content that’s on brand but goes beyond your products or services.

Search Trends and Hashtags

Now that you’ve defined your audience and revisited your values, it’s time to do a little research! To find out what kind of content is resonating with your audience, utilize the power of hashtags to follow trends within your target community.

This can be done in a few ways:

  • Identify top influencers for your industry, and look at the hashtags they’re using.
  • Search for relevant hashtags for your brand on social platforms to find more you can utilize.
  • Sign up for Google Alerts using words that reflect your industry’s trends.
  • Look at your own followers to see what other accounts they follow and how they engage on social platforms.

Instagram in particular makes this kind of hashtag research very simple, since you can follow hashtags the same way you follow other accounts. It’s never been easier to track what kind of content is resonating in any given community!

Don't Be Afraid to Experiment

As is the case with any creative marketing endeavors, generating new content ideas takes a little experimentation. We see it as striking a balance between knowing your brand and routinely seeking out new methods. Here are a few ways we like to leave our comfort zone!

It’s worth seeking new channels for fresh content ideas—libraries, museums, local organizations, or other creative leaders inside and outside your industry! There’s plenty of visual input to be gained from the internet, social accounts, and your marketing materials, but challenging yourself to explore can spark new ideas.
